Ye Menglei: One Simple Question — “Mum, Where Are You?” | 叶梦蕾:一句“妈妈,你在哪儿”

“Mum, where are you?”

Just a few words — yet they moved many people to tears.

These were the words Ye Menglei spoke in her family search video. There was no anger, no questioning, and no blame — only the most natural and sincere call of a child reaching towards the beginning of her life.

Menglei was born in China and later adopted abroad, where she grew up surrounded by love and support. Many years later, she began looking back towards the first chapter of her story, hoping to understand where she comes from and, perhaps, to find her biological family.

For many people, searching for family is not simply about finding a name, uncovering a story, or reaching an answer.

Sometimes, it is simply about wondering:

Where is the person who brought me into this world? Are they doing well?

The words “Mum, where are you?” may carry not regret, but a connection that has never fully disappeared.

We also believe that everyone who begins a journey of searching deserves to be met with kindness, and that every question about one’s origins deserves to be heard with care.

If you are willing to share this message, perhaps one more person seeing it, one more act of passing it on, may help bring Menglei one step closer to an answer.

May every call be answered. May every journey home eventually find its light.
