Jiang Meixin: Her Adoptive Mother’s Wish Is for Her to Know Where She Comes From | 江美鑫：养母的心愿，是让她知道自己从哪里来

On the evening of 5 June, a quiet journey home began at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport.

Among the crowd stood Jiang Meixin and her adoptive mother, who had travelled from Iceland.

Now 21 years old, Meixin left China for Iceland as a child and grew up in a new family and a different world. Years later, she decided to look back towards the beginning of her story and begin searching for her roots.

Returning with her was her 74-year-old adoptive mother.

Speaking to the camera, she shared a simple wish:

She hopes her daughter can fulfil her dream — to know who her birth parents are and to understand where she comes from, so that she no longer has to keep searching.

There was no sense of loss in these words, and no sense of replacement.

Only the most simple and profound expression of a mother’s love.

She hopes her daughter will know that however life unfolds, she can understand her own story and move forward with a sense of wholeness and peace.

Searching for family does not mean rejecting the life one already has.

Very often, it is simply a natural question that arises at a certain moment in life: Where do I come from? It is also a way of reconnecting the past, the present, and the future.

And those who walk alongside children on this journey deserve to be seen too.

站在人群中的，是来自冰岛的江美鑫和她的养母。

今年刚满 21 岁的美鑫，从中国走向冰岛，在新的家庭中长大。多年以后，她决定重新回望生命最初的起点，踏上寻亲之路。
