Welcome to Our Judges | 2025 MBL “Colours of Us” Children’s Art Exhibition

The Colours of Us Children’s Art Exhibition is organised by The Mothers’ Bridge of Love (MBL), inviting original artworks from young disabled artists living in the UK and mainland China, as well as selected British children and teens who are learning Chinese. We encourage children to express their lives and hopes through their own unique perspectives, showcasing their creativity and imagination. Outstanding works will have the opportunity to be exhibited in September 2025 at the historic St Martin-in-the-Fields Gallery in central London.

This exhibition is not only a celebration of artistic expression, but also a meaningful example of how MBL puts its three core principles of public service into action: innovation, continuity, and development. Colours of Us is a new art initiative launched in 2025, under the umbrella of MBL’s Culture for Children programme. This programme, which has been running for two decades, is one of MBL’s long-standing commitments to supporting children through cultural engagement. It aims to create platforms where children from diverse backgrounds can express themselves and connect with others. Through the universal language of art, we hope to build bridges of understanding and communication between children and the wider world.

In the wake of the pandemic, finding more effective ways to support and assist families of children with disabilities has become a key focus of MBL’s evolving mission. The 2025 exhibition will continue to foster artistic expression and cross-cultural dialogue, while also amplifying the voice of the Chinese community and drawing broader public attention to the needs of vulnerable children. We hope this exhibition will not only open a window into children’s inner worlds but also allow their voices to become a force for inclusion and social change.

Through the eyes and brushes of young artists, the exhibition also aims to promote cultural exchange between British and Chinese communities, enrich London’s multicultural landscape, and inspire greater empathy and awareness for children with disabilities.

Caroline Deanne Qu

Caroline Deane Qu is a contemporary British artist whose work is deeply influenced by Eastern Taoist philosophies and at times classical art. She studied at Byam Shaw School of Art in London, The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and the British School at Rome all of which were scholarship placements.  Her experiences living and working between China and the UK have shaped a unique artistic language that blends Eastern and Western aesthetics and spirit.

Known for her expressive oil paintings and figure drawings, Caroline often paints on linen and specially prepared surfaces, making texture and the drawing surface an integral part of her work. Inspired more by the "ideas" behind traditional Chinese art than its outward forms, her paintings explore themes of existence, stillness, and introspection.

Since 1986, Caroline’s work has been widely exhibited in London, Beijing, and Kunming. She has collaborated with galleries such as Thompsons Gallery, Panter and Hall, Rowley Contemporary Art, and Bloxham Galleries, and has participated in major art fairs including the London Contemporary Art Fair and the Battersea Affordable Art Fair.
