Sun Fujie: I Understand the Decision You Made Then. I Only Hope to Know You One Day | 孙福捷:我理解你们当年的决定,只盼有一天与你们相识

“I want to tell you that I understand why you had no choice but to give me up. It must have been a very difficult decision.”

These are the words Sun Fujie would like to say to his birth parents.

Now living in the United States, Fujie may originally be from Henan Province. He has few clues about the earliest chapter of his life, but he feels no blame towards the family he has never met. Instead, he looks back on that unknown past with understanding.

More than anything, he wants them to know that he is doing well.

“I grew up in a loving family. I went to university, and now I work at Disney.”

From an adopted child to a university student, and now an adult with a career and a life of his own, Fujie has grown up surrounded by the love and support of his adoptive parents and family.

But having a happy life today has not taken away his curiosity about where his story began.

He still hopes to understand where he comes from and to learn about the people to whom he is connected by blood. Most of all, he hopes that one day he will have the chance to meet and truly get to know his birth family.

“I hope that one day I can meet you and get to know you, and learn more about my roots.”

For many adoptees, this is perhaps one of the aspects of searching for birth family that can be hardest for others to fully understand.

Searching for one’s birth family does not mean denying the love of one’s adoptive parents. Nor does growing up with a happy and fulfilling life make the question “Where do I come from?” simply disappear. The past and the present do not have to replace one another. Both can be part of a person’s complete life story.

Perhaps Fujie is searching for more than an answer.

He wants his family somewhere far away to know that the child they once gave up has grown up safe and well, that he has been loved, and that he has built a life of his own.

And if they do meet one day, he hopes to bring not questions of blame, but understanding, along with a greeting that has waited many years to be spoken.

The information currently available suggests that Sun Fujie may originally be from Henan Province. If you have any information that might be connected to his origins, or if you can help by sharing his search, please help his story reach more people.

Perhaps a single share could help his voice reach the people he has been hoping to find.

May all the thoughts and feelings left unspoken for so many years have the chance to be heard. And may the words “I understand” one day be spoken in person to the family he has long hoped to know.
