Reunited After 28 Years: A Cross-Continental Family Finds Its Way Back to Each Other

“It felt like a dream — yet it was real.”

H was adopted from China as an infant by a British family and raised in the UK. For nearly three decades, she lived with unanswered questions about her origins. A few years ago, through the support of initiatives like the Nanchang Project, her uploaded DNA sample led to an extraordinary match: her birth family in China.

After months of preparation and paperwork, her birth parents and three biological siblings made the long journey from China to London. In a moment filled with tears, embraces, and quiet joy, H was finally reunited with the family she had only imagined for so many years.

From blood ties to bonds of understanding, this reunion was not just a return to the past, but the beginning of something new.

When H reached out to The Mothers’ Bridge of Love (MBL), our team quickly mobilised. Over the course of the reunion, three MBL volunteers worked in rotation to provide interpreting support, ensuring that language would not stand in the way of reconnecting hearts.

As one of our volunteers reflected:

“Watching them hold hands and embrace with tears in their eyes — I felt deeply moved and grateful to be present for that moment.”

This reunion reminds us that family can be both rediscovered and redefined — not limited by geography or language, but sustained by love, courage, and the desire to understand.
