Qingming (清明): Where Remembrance Meets Renewal

A Season of Light and Memory

Qingming (清明), often translated as Clear and Bright, arrives in early April.
It is a time when spring is fully present: trees begin to blossom, the air softens, and the earth renews itself.

Yet within this season of growth, Qingming also carries a quieter meaning. It is a time for remembrance — when families visit the resting places of loved ones, honour their memory, and reflect on the ties that continue across generations.

This coexistence of renewal and remembrance gives Qingming its unique depth. It reminds us that life moves forward while still holding the past with care.

Remembering as a Form of Connection

For many families, Qingming is not only about ritual, but about relationship. Through shared stories, simple gestures, and moments of reflection, memories are kept alive and passed on.

For children, this may be a first experience of understanding loss and continuity. For adults, it can be a time to revisit relationships, to acknowledge absence, and to rediscover the presence of love in new ways.

At The Mothers’ Bridge of Love, we see how important these moments are. Connection is not limited to what is visible or immediate. It can exist across time, shaped by memory, care, and shared identity.

Carrying Love Across Generations

Qingming invites us to consider how we carry forward what we have received. Values, stories, and acts of care do not disappear. They are lived again through the way we support others, especially children, as they grow.

In our work building bridges between birth and adoptive culture, China and the West, and the poor and the rich, we recognise that understanding often begins with acknowledging where we come from.

Remembering is not about holding on to the past. It is about allowing it to guide us as we move forward.

A Qingming Wish

As spring continues to unfold, may remembrance bring peace rather than sorrow,
may memories offer strength, and may the love we carry continue to connect us across time and distance.

From all of us at The Mothers’ Bridge of Love, we wish you a peaceful and reflective Qingming. 🌿
