One Book, Ten Provinces, Dozens of Lives: “Ha Ha! Canada” Book Meet-and-Greets Coming to Three Canadian Cities

One book. Ten provinces. Dozens of lives.

If Chinese Canadians living in different provinces were asked to answer one question from their own experience—“What kind of society is Canada, really?”—what stories would they write?

Some would record the cultural collisions of first arriving in a foreign land. Others would recount the joys and hardships of work and family life. Still others would share the long journey from strangeness and adjustment to integration, and finally putting down roots in this country.

Initiated by the Greater Vancouver Chinese Cultural Centre, Ha Ha! Canada (戏说加拿大) selects 57 pieces from 155 submissions gathered across Canada. The authors come from all ten provinces and represent a wide range of cities, professions, ages, and immigration backgrounds.

These 57 true stories are like 57 windows, letting readers see a diverse and authentic Canada through the lives of ordinary people.

This November, book meet-and-greets for Ha Ha! Canada will take place in Vancouver, Coquitlam, and the Montreal area. The Mothers’ Bridge of Love (MBL), together with local partners, is supporting this series of cultural exchange events, inviting readers and authors to meet face-to-face, share life experiences, exchange reflections on immigration, and discover resonance in one another’s stories.

Different Stories, One Canada

Ha Ha! Canada is not only a collection of writings about the lives of Chinese Canadians, but also a contemporary record of immigrant experiences, cultural identity, and social integration.

From the strangeness of first arrival to gradual understanding and integration into local society, behind every story is a real person and a unique life.

These stories deserve to be told—and to be heard.

The Mothers’ Bridge of Love warmly invites Chinese friends, cultural enthusiasts, and readers from across Canada to attend the book meet-and-greets, meet the authors, share experiences in conversation, and deepen mutual understanding through stories.

One book. Ten provinces. Dozens of lives.

This November, let us gather in Canada, hear one another’s stories, and see the world we share.

Ha Ha! Canada is available in both Chinese and English editions.
