Sometimes, on the long road of searching for family, one person’s good news becomes the spark that reignites hope for someone else.
In November 2025, Lei Xiaozhuo—adopted to Sweden as a child—was put in touch with overseas volunteers from the “Baby Come Home” organization through Guo Zhong, another Swedish-Chinese adoptee who had only recently succeeded in finding his biological family. That introduction marked the beginning of her own search.
At the time, she could not have known that she would not only receive help along the way, but would also become a source of help for others.
A Search That Began in Sweden
With the assistance of “Baby Come Home” volunteers in Sweden, Xiaozhuo completed her registration and DNA sampling. By the end of 2025, her DNA profile had been successfully entered into China’s national DNA database.
Meanwhile, volunteers in China continued to share her search video across multiple social platforms, hoping it would reach people who might have information. Swedish volunteer Yang Yang even met Xiaozhuo in person to help film the video, increasing the chances of locating her biological parents.
From registering information and collecting DNA to filming and circulating the video, each step appeared ordinary on the surface, yet each required patience and waiting.
For adoptees living overseas, the search for one’s birth family often means more than crossing geographical distance. It also means trying to recover a past one has never known.
She Had Already Helped Someone Else Find Their Family
Earlier this year, Xiaozhuo recommended “Baby Come Home” to another young man adopted to Sweden, Gao Jianquan. With the joint efforts of volunteers in both China and Sweden, Gao Jianquan successfully located his biological family in July and was reunited with them.
That experience gave Xiaozhuo’s own story an added layer of meaning. While she herself was still waiting for results, she chose to share the search channels she had already learned about with others.
From Guo Zhong to Xiaozhuo, and from Xiaozhuo to Gao Jianquan, the experience of one successful search became the starting point for the next adoptee to take their first step. Sometimes the path home becomes more real simply because people connect with one another.
The Long-Awaited DNA Match
At the end of August this year, Xiaozhuo finally received the news she had been waiting for: her DNA had matched with her biological parents, confirming the relationship.
After months of registration, sampling, information sharing, and waiting, she had found her birth parents. According to updates shared when the video was posted, she was about to meet her biological family for the first time via video call.
For someone who grew up in Sweden, that first meeting may raise many new questions and open a relationship that will need to be built gradually. Finding one’s family does not mean every question about the past is immediately answered. But at least she now has the chance to hear her biological family’s story in their own words—and to tell them about the life she has lived.
One Light Illuminating the Path for Others
Lei Xiaozhuo’s successful search would not have been possible without the combined efforts of “Baby Come Home” volunteers in China and overseas. Some helped with registration and DNA collection; others assisted with filming; still others continuously shared the information or searched for and verified possible leads in China. Together, these efforts brought a search that spanned China and Sweden to a conclusion.
What is equally worth remembering is that the help did not stop with Xiaozhuo alone. Guo Zhong introduced the search channels to her; she in turn shared the same opportunity with Gao Jianquan. Today, each of their stories has entered a new chapter.
At the Mothers’ Bridge of Love, we hope more people will see stories like these.
For overseas adoptees, searching for one’s biological family is a personal choice. Some want to understand the circumstances of their birth; others long for reunion; still others simply want to know where their life story began. Whatever the choice, every search deserves understanding and respect.
Lei Xiaozhuo once helped point the way for someone else. Now she herself has found her biological parents.
May her first meeting with her birth family be a gentle and meaningful beginning for them to truly know one another. And may this piece of good news, which has crossed mountains and seas, continue to carry hope to other adoptees who are still searching.
