Loved, Therefore Happy: One Adoptee’s Answer to Life | 因为被爱,所以幸福:一位弃婴的人生回答

“In October 1984, when I was just three days old, I was abandoned.”

It was not an ideal beginning to a life.

That morning, a passing man picked her up and carried her home. He asked his wife, “What do you think about raising this little girl?”

His wife did not answer straight away. Instead, she said, “Let's ask Mum first if she's willing to help us look after her.”

At the time, she was busy teaching her craft to five apprentices and had little time to care for a baby. Yet she had always hoped to have a daughter.

The father then went to ask his mother.

She replied with just four simple words: “Bring her home.”

And so, a child who might otherwise have had no connection to this family became one of its most treasured members.

She was raised by her grandmother and grew up surrounded by the love and care of her parents and extended family. Looking back on her childhood, she says with a smile: “I could never finish telling you how happy my childhood was.”

When reflecting on the circumstances of her birth, she does not dwell on the pain of being abandoned. Instead, she chooses to see another side of her story.

“It was because I was abandoned that everything else in my life became possible.”

These words are not an attempt to diminish the sadness of the beginning of her life. Rather, they are an expression of gratitude to the family who opened their hearts and changed the course of her future.

Every adoptee's life unfolds differently. Some continue searching for their birth families. Some have already found them. Others choose to cherish the lives they have built and continue moving forward.

Yet whatever path life takes, love has the power to transform it.

At Mothers' Bridge of Love (MBL), we remain committed to supporting adoptees in both their personal journeys and their search for their roots. We also hope more people will understand that searching for one's origins and being grateful to one's adoptive family are not contradictory. Wanting to know where you come from does not lessen the love and appreciation you hold for those who raised you.

May every child grow up surrounded by love.

And may every life be given a new beginning through kindness.
