Clare’s Search: Looking Back to Where Life Began

Clare’s Search: Looking Back to Where Life Began

On a cold winter morning, 30 December 1994, the streets of Qingyang Town, Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, were wrapped in frost. That day, a baby girl was found—swaddled in a blanket, only a day or so old.

It was later believed she had been born on 29 December 1994. Soon after, she was taken to the Jiangyin Welfare Institute, where she spent her first winter surrounded by care and warmth.

A few months later, this little girl from Jiangyin was adopted by an American family. From that moment on, she had a new name—Clare.

A new country, a new language, a new family—her life was filled with love, yet also with a quiet question that lingered through the years: Where do I come from?

Now an adult, Clare has decided to return to China, to trace her beginnings—to the winter morning, and to the gentle yet distant place where her life began.

“I’m not trying to change the past,” she said softly. “I just want to know who gave me life—and to tell them that I’m doing well.”

Across thirty years and thousands of miles, Clare’s search is not only a journey of finding her roots, but also one of reunion—with herself, and with love.

May her wish be heard.

And may the road home always remain open to her.
