Long Wenchao: After 22 Years in Denmark, Still Longing for a Home Far Away in the East |

Twenty-two years is enough time for a child to grow into an adult, and for a once unfamiliar country to become home.

For Long Wenchao, who now lives in Denmark, this is her 22nd year there.

She has grown up in Denmark, built a familiar life and found her own path. Yet far away in the East, a question about another kind of “home” has always remained in her heart.

Where do I come from? Where is my birth family now?

The information currently available about her origins points to Suichuan, Jiangxi Province. More than two decades have passed, and many of the people and places from that time may have changed. But time has not diminished her wish to search.

For many international adoptees, “home” does not necessarily have just one meaning.

The place where you grow up can be home. The people who raise you and share your life can be family. But the place where your life began, and the people to whom you are connected by blood but have never had the chance to know, can also remain a lasting presence in your heart.

Now, in her 22nd year of living in Denmark, Wenchao still hopes that one day she will find that home far away in the East, and that the first page of her life will no longer be a blank.

If you are from Suichuan, Jiangxi Province, know anything about the area from more than twenty years ago, or have any information that might be connected to Wenchao’s origins, please help by sharing her story.

For most of us, it may be just a simple share. But for someone who has been searching for many years, it could help make a distance of more than two decades feel a little smaller.

May twenty-two years of looking towards a distant home finally receive an answer. And may that “home” far away in the East one day become more than simply a direction.
