Jiang Xiaoyue: Dear You, I Still Believe Love Will Bring Us Together Again |

“Dear you…”

Some letters have a recipient’s name and address.

Others are written without knowing where they will eventually go, or whether the person they are meant for will ever have the chance to read them.

At the age of 29, Jiang Xiaoyue has written a letter to her birth mother.

She does not know where her mother is today, or whether she still remembers her. But after 28 years of living in the Netherlands, Xiaoyue still wanted to put these words on paper, hoping that one day they might reach the person far away for whom they were written.

Found in Jiangmen Three Days After Her Birth

According to the information currently available, Jiang Xiaoyue was born on 20 May 1997.

Three days later, on 23 May, she was found outside a children’s welfare institution in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province.

She was later adopted to the Netherlands, where she grew up.

Today, Xiaoyue is 29 years old and has lived in the Netherlands for 28 years.

She says: “I am Chinese, and I am proud of it!”

She may also have a Dutch name, but her Chinese name has always remained with her: Jiang Xiaoyue.

That name has become a thread connecting her to the place where her life began.

“I Have Always Carried My Birth Parents in My Heart”

Xiaoyue has very little information about the first three days of her life.

She does not know who her birth parents are or where they live today. Nor does she know whether, after all these years, they still think about the daughter they once had to leave behind.

But in her letter, she writes:

“I have always carried my birth parents in my heart, even though I don’t know who they are, where they are, whether they are still alive, or whether they still think of me.”

There are no accusations and no assumptions about what happened.

There is simply a daughter, now grown up, who wants to know where her story began. She also wants the family she has never met to know that the little girl born in May 1997 has grown up.

“I Believe Love Will Bring Us Together Again”

Twenty-eight years is a long time.

Cities change. People move away. Details gradually fade from memory.

But perhaps someone still remembers Jiangmen in May 1997.

Perhaps someone remembers a newborn baby girl, something that happened within a particular family, or even a few words overheard in passing all those years ago.

Memories that may seem insignificant could become important clues in Xiaoyue’s search for where her life began.

In her letter, she writes: “I still believe that love will bring us together again.”

If you are from Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, know anything about the area around May 1997, or have any information that might be connected to Jiang Xiaoyue’s origins, please help by sharing her story and allowing this letter to her birth mother to travel a little further.

Perhaps what it ultimately needs to reach is not an address, but someone’s memory.

May Xiaoyue’s “Dear you” one day find the person it was written for. And may the reunion she continues to believe in one day become more than a distant hope, bringing them face to face at last.
