Great Heat |大暑: In the Hottest Days, a Time to Pause and Nourish

Dàshǔ, or Great Heat, marks the twelfth of the twenty-four solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar. It falls on 22 July this year, when the sun scorches brightest, the air grows thick with warmth, and nature reaches its fullest flourish.

But in Chinese wisdom, Dàshǔ is not only about heat — it is also about balance, rest, and resilience.

In this season, Chinese families traditionally slow down. They sip cooling herbal teas, prepare dishes like mung bean soup and lotus root, and take care not to overexert the body. It is a time to preserve energy, protect health, and gently adapt to nature’s extremes.

At the Mothers’ Bridge of Love, we see Dàshǔ as a quiet reminder that even in life’s most intense moments, there is space for care, reflection, and connection. Just as nature thrives by respecting its rhythms, we too can learn to pause, soften, and listen — to our bodies, our loved ones, and the changing world around us.
