Event Preview | What the Heart Sees: Fang Aimei Photography Exhibition Opens Soon in London

We look at the world every day.

We see people passing by on the street, landscapes in the distance, a shaft of light falling across a corner, or a fleeting expression on someone's face.

Yet, of all the countless things that pass before our eyes, only a few stay with us.

We tend to think it is our eyes that decide what is worth remembering.

But perhaps it is our hearts that recognise something familiar among the countless things we see.

From 1 November 2026 to 30 January 2027, Mothers' Bridge of Love (MBL) will present What the Heart Sees, a photography exhibition by Fang Aimei, at Charing Cross Library in London.

What We See with Our Eyes, We Recognise with Our Hearts

Photography is not always simply about capturing the world before us.

Why is it that, faced with the same view, some people walk straight past while others stop to take a closer look?

Why can an ordinary scene suddenly move us in an unexpected moment?

Through the lens of photographer Fang Aimei, What the Heart Sees explores the relationship between visual perception and inner feeling, capturing moments that resonate with us, touch something within us and become worth remembering.

The exhibition invites visitors to slow down and take a moment to look. As we stand before each photograph, we may discover more than the scenes the photographer once encountered. We may also recognise something of our own experiences, emotions and memories, finding personal connections and shared meaning through different ways of seeing.

What the Heart Sees.

Sometimes, what brings us joy is not that the world has suddenly changed, but that, for a moment, we have truly seen it.

A Meeting of Perspectives at the Library

The exhibition is organised by Mothers' Bridge of Love (MBL), in partnership with Charing Cross Library.

MBL has long been committed to building bridges between cultures, fostering understanding between East and West, and encouraging mutual support and connections among people from different cultural backgrounds.

A library is more than a place for reading and learning. It is also a shared cultural space where people from different walks of life can come together.

Through this photography exhibition, we hope to bring art into everyday life and create opportunities for the Chinese community, newcomers to the UK and Londoners from diverse backgrounds to connect through looking, sharing and conversation.

Opening Reception | A Conversation with the Photographer About the Art of Seeing

On Saturday afternoon, 7 November, we warmly invite you to join us at Charing Cross Library for the opening reception of What the Heart Sees.

Alongside the opening remarks, photographer Fang Aimei will share insights into her creative work and the way she sees the world. Guests will then have the opportunity to explore the exhibition at their own pace and meet the artist and fellow visitors.

The reception will begin at 3.30 pm, with speeches and the artist's talk followed by time for viewing and conversation.

You don't need to know anything about photography.

Just bring your eyes, your curiosity and an open heart.

Perhaps a moment that once touched someone else will, quite unexpectedly, speak to you too.
