Who Am I ? – Rose (Qiao) Clement

Frühlingskleider baumwolle Hi, my name is Rose Qiao. I was adopted from WuHan, China, in 2001 when I was one year old. My mother and my aunt went to China together and each adopted a little girl of the same age, and we all live under the same roof. My cousin and I were brought back to America and we now live in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
Ever since anyone can remember, I’ve been full of energy and light. I’ve been an athlete since I could walk, and a writer since I could hold a crayon. I now play volleyball and badminton for my high school, and just recently had to give up soccer, track, and cross country. I’m extremely competitive and active, so sports are naturally something I’m good at and love.
Along with the athleticism, I am also a proud writer and reader. I do well in school, and aspire to be an oncologist. In eighth grade, my writing teacher introduced me more to socially conscious writing and poetry. I fell even more in love with writing and I felt like I could really connect with it. I was going through a lot at the time, so I tried to put everything into metaphors and poems. To this day, I still find a sense of comfort and shelter in writing.
I’ve been through some tough things, and I’ve fought them mostly on my own. I can’t say I’ve grown stronger than my battles, but I can definitely say I’ve grown smarter. I know how to look past imperfections and instead focus on the beauty of the individuality. I’ve learnt how to find happiness in my life and to be grateful for everything.
I am so grateful to have been adopted into such a loving family. I don’t have everything, but I don’t have nothing, and I have anything I’ll ever need. I am learning to love myself and my life, as I hope for everyone else as well.
I do hope to return to China someday and maybe even find my roots. “The Good Women Of China” was such a powerful eyeopener and I’m so thankful to have come across Mother’s Bridge of Love.
